Once again I found myself the subject of fellow student and great friend Ornela Aliaj's well oiled lens. Ornela's wanted some stills featuring cutouts from my project You Fit The Description for a stop-motion video she was putting together. Ever the perfectionist, I knew I'd be in safe hands.
YFTD is a response to the sus laws (stop and search) introduced in the 70’s which saw a disproportionate number of black youths being stopped and searched under the guise of loitering with intent to commit an arrestable offence. The (un)conscious bias built into the process allowed for the black male to be treated as a collective mass with little regards to character differences.
I chose to create collages which resembled the photofit style used by law enforcement agencies when pursuing a wanted person. The work formed part of my Photography BA final project and featured in the LCC Graduate Showcase and Wells Art Contemporary (2023).
The studio assistant and lighting technician for the day was another talent and photography degree classmate Nathan Wright, together they nailed it!
